Know what Fog Mode saves.
This page covers Fog Mode 0.1.34. Paul Coskun operates whatisbrainfog.com and publishes Fog Mode.
What stays on your device
Fog Mode stores preferences, notes you save, optional details of pages you save, and a history of your recent sessions in your Chrome profile. If you choose Easier, About the same, or Harder after a pause, Fog Mode stores that answer with the session.
A saved page can include its address, title, selected article text, and a short passage used to find the reading position. Fog Mode saves a page when you choose to save it. Fog Mode doesn’t keep an automatic browsing-history log or capture text from form fields and editors as saved article selections.
The extension has no account or analytics backend and doesn’t send these records to us. It doesn’t use or sell your saved notes or page details for advertising. Fog Mode makes its sounds on your device.
Why it needs page access
Fog Mode uses access to change text and motion where it can, show a guide or a note, pull out an article when you ask, and save a page when you ask. Clicking the toolbar icon can provide temporary access. Optional website access lets your reading choices and attached notes follow you from page to page.
Saved page data is used for the features you choose: notes, article reading, and returning to a saved position. It isn’t used for advertising, profiling, or unrelated research. You can decline optional access, turn it off later, or exclude individual websites.
Fog Mode’s use of the information it handles follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Who can see a note
An attached note is visible on your screen and in a screen share. Hide it before sharing if it contains something you don’t want others to see.
Fog Mode doesn’t encrypt its stored records or exported backups. Someone with access to your Chrome profile or backup files may be able to read them. Keep passwords and private records elsewhere.
How long records stay, and how to remove them
Saved notes and preferences remain until you delete them, replace them with an import, or remove the extension. Fog Mode keeps up to 100 notes and a history of up to 100 sessions. Temporary drafts, and notes temporarily attached to a tab, are separate from saved notes.
Delete individual notes in Remember. Clear session history in focus and reminder settings. Use Settings → Delete all my data to remove all of the extension’s saved data.
Use Settings → Export my data before uninstalling if you want a backup. Removing the extension removes the data it saved in your Chrome profile. Downloaded files remain where you saved them. Delete those separately. There’s no automatic cloud sync or server copy for us to restore.
Website visits, release notes, and support are separate
The Fog Mode help pages on whatisbrainfog.com have two things you can fill in: a form for describing a problem, and a few questions for people who uninstall. The pages don’t send us what you type or choose. If you click Open email draft, the form puts your words into a draft in your own email app. We receive them only if you send that email.
When you open one of these help pages, Cloudflare logs your IP address, your browser type, the page and the time. Cloudflare is the company that hosts whatisbrainfog.com. It logs the same details if you follow the release notes by RSS. Those logs are separate from the records the extension keeps in Chrome.
Installing Fog Mode doesn’t subscribe you to email. These pages have no email signup. If we add one later, it will say what you receive and how to unsubscribe.
